Donald “O” Omernik, 60, Wisconsin Rapids, a Stevens Point native, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at the House of the Dove in Marshfield after a long battle with leukemia.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids, with the Rev. William Menzel officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Wisconsin Rapids.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Higgins Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. A parish prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Omernik was born July 5, 1940, in Stevens Point, a son of the late Dan and Anne (Koplinski) Omernik, and grew up in the Polonia area.
He was married to Loretta L. Check on Sept. 24, 1966, in Stevens Point.
He graduated from Michigan Tech University in Houghton, Mich., and was employed as a forester for the state of Minnesota in Two Harbors.
He joined Consolidated Papers Inc. on Aug. 21, 1972, as supervisor of field services for Consolidated’s Tree Farm. He retired on Dec. 31, 1999.
He also took over his father’s accounts as an insurance agent for Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Co.
He was a member of the Society of American Foresters and Wisconsin Woodland Owners Association.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Christopher, Milwaukee; one daughter Dawn (David) Omernik-Nimmer, Thiensville; and two sisters, Elaine Omernik, Weyauwega, and Dorothy (Walter) Danczyk, Hayward.
