Oren Berto, 77, Manistique, Mich., an Amherst native, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at his residence.
Services were Aug. 2 at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery in Manistique.
Mr. Berto was born Nov. 21, 1922, in the town of Amherst, a son of the late James and Rose (Holik) Berto.
He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
He was married to Eileen (Harbath) Males.
He worked as a dairy farmer and later was employed by the USDA Soil Conservation Service.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, David, Suffield, Conn., William (Valarie), Marysville, Mich., and Roy, Daggett, Mich.; three daughters, Barbara (Daniel) Drifka, Daggett, Mich., Diane (John) Poniewozik, Monroe, Mich., and Bonnie (Dale) Larsen, Holbrook, Ariz.; three stepsons, John Ostlund, Gladstone, Mich., Peter Ostlund, Grand Ledge, Mich., and James Ostlund, Manistique, Mich.; one stepdaughter, Kathleen (Don) Schuetter, Manistique, Mich.; one sister, Rosemary (Edward) Piotrowski, Amherst; one brother, Fred (Ruthie), Amherst; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
