James Anthony Flachmeyer, 60, Stevens Point, died of lung cancer at his home Friday, June 23, 2000, while under the care of Hospice of Portage County.
Family and friends will gather to say goodbye at 6 p.m. Tuesday near the band shell at Pfiffner-Pioneer Park in Stevens Point. A memorial wreath will be dropped from an airplane into the Wisconsin River.
Jensen & Jinsky Funeral Home in Plover assisted the family with arrangements.
Mr. Flachmeyer was born Nov. 17, 1939, in Anaconda, Mont.
He worked for railroads for 30 years, first with the Milwaukee Road in Illinois, then was transferred to Wisconsin with the Soo Line Railroad and then with Wisconsin Central Ltd.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda; four children; brothers; sisters and five grandchildren.
