Vernon R. Ashbeck, 68, Wisconsin Rapids, brother of a Stevens Point woman, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids with the Revs. William Menzel and Carl Dockendorff officiating. Entombment will be in Forest Hill Mausoleum in Wisconsin Rapids.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids and until 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A parish rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Mr. Ashbeck was born Oct. 19, 1931, in Blenker, a son of the late Joseph and Anna (Rickl) Ashbeck. He graduated from Auburndale High School in 1949.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.
He was married to Geraldine Kundinger on July 4, 1955, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Auburndale.
He worked for Preway Inc. in Wisconsin Rapids for 38 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of VFW Post No. 2534 of Wisconsin Rapids, a helper with Boy Scouts at St. Vincent de Paul Church, was a former member of the NAIM Society and helped coach Little League baseball in Wisconsin Rapids.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Joe (Mary Beth), Rollie (Tricia) and Greg (Rebecca), all of Wisconsin Rapids; one daughter, Lori (Todd) Buntrock, Wisconsin Rapids; four sisters, Ethel (Clarence) Michalski, Stevens Point, and Charlotte (Carl) Adamski, Betty Ann Dorshorst and Mary Ann (Greg) Mrozinski, all of Wisconsin Rapids; and 10 grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Brian.
