George W. Smith, 91, Wisconsin Rapids, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at St. Michael’s Hospital as a result of an automobile accident, which also claimed the life of his wife, Christine J. Smith.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation was held at Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids on Sunday and at the church from 1 p.m. Monday until the services.
Mr. Smith was born Aug. 31, 1908, in Ecorse, Mich., a son of the late George and Emma (Mayotte) Smith.
He was married to Cornelia Kroll on Oct. 28, 1936. She died March 10, 1969.
He was married to Christine J. Hintz on March 3, 1972 in Wisconsin Rapids. She died April 28 as a result of the same accident.
He operated Modern Shoe Repair in Wisconsin Rapids for many years.
Survivors include one son, David (Sharon), Two Rivers; one daughter, Leanne (Wayne) Kolo, Nekoosa; two stepdaughters, Gerri (Mike) Woyak, Stevens Point, and Ruth (Reggie) Konop, Mosinee; two stepsons, Dennis (Carol) Hintz, Stevens Point, and Maynard (Billie Kay) Hintz, Milwaukee; six grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and seven great-stepgrandchildren.
