Clifford J. Shafranski, 67, San Diego, Calif., a Stevens Point native, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, in San Diego.
A private memorial Mass was planned for St. Peter Catholic Church in Stevens Point, with burial in Guardian Angel Cemetery.
Mr. Shafranski was born Oct. 1, 1932, in Stevens Point, a son of the late Adam and Theresa (Rinka) Shafranski. He attended St. Peter Grade School and graduated from P. J. Jacobs High School. He later attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on Nov. 9, 1950, and was honorably discharged as a sergeant on Nov. 3, 1953. He served in Korea with the 1st Marine Division from May 1951 until April 1952.
He was transferred to Eta Jima, Japan, and then to Edenton, N.C., where he served with the 2nd Marine Air Wing Division until his discharge. He received the U.N. Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with three battle stars, the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Survivors include three brothers, Donald (Lucille), Milwaukee, and David (Gladys) and Roy, both of Stevens Point; four sisters, Carol (Ronald) Kubisiak, Wisconsin Rapids, and Catherine Stelchek, Joan Ross and Mary Ann (Joe) Weisbrod, all of Stevens Point; nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Gregory.
