Christine J. Smith, 80, Wisconsin Rapids, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield following an automobile accident on April 27 in Portage County, which also claimed the life of her husband, George W. Smith.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stevens Point with the Rev. Alan Burkhardt officiating. Burial will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at Shuda Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Smith was born Jan. 18, 1920, in Stevens Point, a daughter of the late Louis and Susan (Helminiak) Ostrowski.
She was a member of the first graduating class at P.J. Jacobs High School.
She was married to Carl Hintz on Sept. 2, 1940, at St. Peter Catholic Church. He died Jan. 30, 1969.
She worked at the Point Bakery and J.C. Penney Co. in Stevens Point.
She was married to George Smith on March 3, 1972, in Wisconsin Rapids and they lived in Wisconsin Rapids since. He died on April 27, 2000, as a result of the accident.
She was a past president of the St. Anne’s Society at St. Joseph Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Gerri (Mike) Woyak, Stevens Point, and Ruth (Reggie) Konop, Mosinee; two sons, Dennis (Carol) Hintz, Stevens Point, and Maynard (Billie Kay) Hintz, Milwaukee; one stepdaughter, Leanne (Wayne) Kolo, Nekoosa; one stepson, David (Sharon) Smith, Two Rivers; three brothers, Richard (Pearl) Ostrowski, Wisconsin Rapids, and Maurice Ostrowski and Alfred (Doris) Ostrowski, both of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Margie Schaaf, Annandale, Va., and Eleanor (Don) Hoerter, Stevens Point; 11 grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and four great-stepgrandchildren.
