Edith “Edie”: Stenger, 66, 3216 McCulloch St., died Feb. 7, 2000, at home under the care of Hospice of Portage County after an extended illness and battle with cancer.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Alan Burkhardt officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home until the services.
Memorials in lieu of flowers have been established in her name to the Hospice of Portage County and for the St. Joseph Congregation, Stevens Point, Endowment Trust.
Mrs. Stenger was born Jan. 13, 1934, in Jerne Esbjerg, Denmark, a daughter of the late Axel and Anna (Skott) Hansen.
She came with her family to the United States in April 1952 and settled in Minnesota.
She was married to John A. Stenger in July 1956 in Northfield, Minn. They settled in St. Louis Park, Minn. They moved to Stevens Point in July 1966, settling at their present address.
She became a U.S. citizen in the early 1970s and worked at Sentry Insurance until retiring in 1986.
Survivors include her husband, two daughters, Jan (Mike) Omernik, Stevens Point, and Sue (Joe) Schultz, Plover; two sisters, Bitten (Kund) Nielsen, Farmington, Minn., and Jenny (Jerry) Youll, North Olmsted, Ohio; one brother, Max Girsel, Copenhagen, Denmark; and six grandsons.
She was also preceded in death by a baby sister, Kirsten.
