Esther Elizabeth Cate Cain, 90, Brodhead, a Portage County native, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at The Monroe Manor, Monroe.
Services were held Monday at St. Rose Catholic Church in Brodhead with the Rev. Elmer Dietzel officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead.
Visitation was Sunday at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Brodhead.
Memorials can be made to St. Rose Catholic Church or the Mary and Esther Cain Scholarship at Brodhead High School.
Mrs. Cain was born March 3, 1909, in the town of Stockton, a daughter of the late DeWitt C. and Mary (Costick) Cate.
She was married to Dr. Seth L. Cain on June 30, 1933, in Stevens Point. He died March 27, 1991.
She graduated from Stevens Point High School in 1924 and the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1928 with a bachelor’s degree in home economics. She also attended Central State Teachers College in Stevens Point.
She taught home economics at Brodhead High School from 1928 until her retirement in 1966.
She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Theta Phi Alpha social sorority, a life member of the UW Alumni Association and had been a member of the Decatur Lake Country Club Auxiliary.
Survivors include three nieces and a nephew.
She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Mary in 1966, and Patricia in 1948.
