Robert P. Schelke, 68, 819 Third St., died Sunday evening, Nov. 28, 1999, at St. Michael’s Hospital.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Casimir Catholic Church in the town of Hull with the Rev. Donald Walczak officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church until the time of services. There will be a combined veterans ritual with the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Knights of Columbus and Catholic Order of Foresters will combine with the general rosary at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Mr. Schelke was born March 25, 1931, in Stevens Point, a son of the late Paul and Alice (Kulich) Schelke. He attended local schools and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1949.
He entered the U.S. Army on Jan. 8, 1952, in Milwaukee. He served as a PFC with the 172nd Infantry. He received the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 9, 1953, at Fort Sheridan, Ill.
He was married to Barbara Frymark on June 10, 1952, at St. Peter Catholic Church. After the marriage, the couple settled in Stevens Point and lived at their present address the past 47 years.
He was employed at Lullabye Furniture for more than 30 years, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of Berens-Scribner American Legion Post 6, the DAV, VFW Post 568, the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Knights of Columbus Monsignor McGinley Council 1170 and St. Peter Holy Name Society.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Richard (Patricia), Stevens Point; one sister, Theresa (Louis) Tenner, Freedom; and three grandchildren.
