Irene R. Somers, 79, formerly of 7582 Highway Z, Polonia, died Thursday evening, Nov. 11, 1999, at Portage County Health Care Center after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for the last six years.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia with the Rev. Herbert Zoromski officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. Sunday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel and from 10 a.m. Monday at the church until the services. The Sacred Heart Ladies Society, of which she was a member of 61 years, will combine with the general rosary at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name.
Mrs. Somers was born April 20, 1920, in Amherst, a daughter of the late Alex and Martha (Trzebiatowski) Patoka.
She attended schools in Fancher.
She was married to Felix Somers on Sept. 19, 1938, in Fancher. The couple settled at their current address in 1946.
She worked as a seamstress at Nigbor Furs.
She enjoyed stock car racing, going to rummage sales and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Richard (Ann), Stevens Point; one daughter, Diane (Stanley) Lemke, Shantytown; five sisters, Susie Readel, Stevens Point, Henrietta (Ed) Orlowski, Hoffman Estates, Ill., Alice Randal, Menomonee Falls, Theresa (Robert) Dallman, Milwaukee, and Margie (Robert) Kostuch, Menomonee Falls; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
