Sandra Lou Altenburg, 56, Florida, wife of a Stevens Point native, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, from complications after receiving a heart transplant on Sept. 15 at Tampa General Hospital, Tampa, Fla.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Community Lutheran Church in Racine. Interment will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at Plover Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Knutsen officiating.
Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. Sunday until the services. The Maresh-Meredith Funeral Home, Racine, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorial to Holy Community Lutheran Church have been suggested by the family.
Mrs. Altenburg was born in Racine on April 3, 1943, a daughter of Dorothy A. (Piper) Reidenbach and the late Earl J. Reidenbach. She graduated from Racine Horlick High School and received a bachelor’s degree from Wisconsin State University-Stevens Point in 1965.
She was married to John F. Altenburg, formerly of Stevens Point, on Sept. 27, 1991, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Racine.
She taught in Racine and, after receiving a master’s degree from the College of Racine, became a school administrator. She retired as administrator of instructional services in 1995.
Survivors include her husband, Cape Canaveral, Fla.; her mother, Cape Canaveral, Fla.; and one daughter, Rebekah L. (Daniel) Turk, Racine.
