Jane K. Burgess, 81, a former Stevens Point woman, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, in Philadelphia, Pa..
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at Carroll College Chapel, Waukesha. In her honor, donations may be sent to the Jane K. Burgess Sociology Scholarship Fund at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha Campus, c/o D. Boetcher.
Mrs. Burgess was born Jan. 1, 1918, a daughter of Alice Menzel, Stevens Point, and the late Carl Menzel.
She was married to Samuel G. Burgess on July 1, 1939.
She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and earned her doctor of philosophy degree at the University of Illinois. She was a professor of sociology, marriage and the family and cultural anthropology at UW-Waukesha for 17 years.
Other survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth Burgess (Charles) Erven, Racine; one son, Dr. David (Naida) Burgess, Smithville, N.J.; and six grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband.
