John P. Zawadsky, 72, 3900 Jordan Lane, died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at his home.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel. Visitation was held at the funeral home before the services Wednesday.
Mr. Zawadsky was born April 15, 1927, in Springfield, Vt., a son of the late John and Anna (Kissler) Zawadsky.
He was married to Patience Hartman, on Sept. 8, 1948, in Trenton, N.J.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, receiving an honorable discharge after the war.
Mr. Zawadsky graduated from Rutgers University in 1951. He later earned his Ph.D. in philosophy from Harvard.
He moved with his family in 1969 to Stevens Point when he began serving as chairman of the philosophy department at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He served in that position until his retirement in 1992.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John (Penny), Madison, and Paul (Becky), Los Angeles; two daughters, Rebecca (James) Dana and Elizabeth (Tim) Cole, both of Stevens Point; one sister, Marley (John) O’Neill, New Jersey; one brother, Joseph (Lynn), New Jersey; and six grandchildren.
