Betty Stokes, 68, a former Stevens Point resident, died Monday, Sept. 20, at her home in Madison. She had been ill with colon cancer for three and one-half years.
She and her husband, Bill, lived here in the late 1950s while he was a reporter for the Stevens Point Journal. They moved to Madison in 1959 and he became a writer for the Wisconsin State Journal of Madison, the Milwaukee Journal and the Chicago Tribune, and the author of books.
Mrs. Stokes was born at Abbotsford and attended school in Rice Lake and Minneapolis. Her interests included tennis, bicycling and travel.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Pat, Mazomanie; four sons, Larry, Shorewood, Minn., Scott, Mazomanie, Rick,, Madison, and Mike, Mazomanie; and 12 grandchildren.
