Leo M. Retzki, 86, 8052 Standing Rocks Road, Amherst, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at St. Michael’s Hospital.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Al Burkhardt officiating. Burial will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the services Wednesday at the church. The Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mr. Retzki was born Dec. 11, 1912, in Stevens Point, a son of the late Maximilian and Stella (Piesek) Retzki. He attended elementary school in Stevens Point and boarding school in Milwaukee for high school. He also attended St. Mary’s Seminary in Winona, Minn.
He was married to Dorothy Firkus on July 10, 1939, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. After the marriage, the couple settled in Stevens Point. She died April 11, 1977.
Mr. Retzki worked for a number of years for Pre-Way Stoves in Wisconsin Rapids and ran Retzki’s Tavern on the Square for more than 34 years, retiring in 1971. His father ran the tavern previously, and together they owned the oldest tavern license in the city.
Survivors include two sons, Leo Jr. (Sandra), Amherst, and Louis (Kathy), Stevens Point; four grandsons; and five great-grandsons.
He was also preceded in death by an infant sister.
