Elsa (Elsie) Marie Goetz, age 97, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at the River Pines Center where she had been a resident for the past year.
Funeral services were held at the Grandview United Methodist Church and burial was at the Grandview Cemetery.
Visitation was held Monday at the Boston Funeral Home. A Barbara Rebekah Ritual was held, followed by a prayer service with the Rev. Diego Orcini officiating.
Memorials have been established in her name for the Plover United Methodist Church and the Grandview United Methodist Church, for musical purposes.
Mrs. Goetz was born March 25, 1902 in Washburn, a daughter of Carl and Anna Wallin. The family moved to Grandview where she attended school. She became the local postmistress in 1917, later graduated from Gordon Business College in Ashland and worked in Bemidji and Minneapolis during the 1920s. She later served as bookkeeper for her brothers who owned the Wallin Brothers’ Grandview General Store.
Mrs. Goetz was married to William F. Goetz, on June 15, 1926. They lived in Park Falls, Rice Lake and Menomonie before moving to Stevens Point in 1942. Here she worked as full-time bookkeeper for the Erickson Ford Garage from 1944-1952. Later she kept books part-time for the Congress Cafe, Sky Club, Dottie’s Beauty Salon and the Portage County Home.
Mrs. Goetz was the musician for the Barbara Rebekah Lodge for many years as well as a past Noble Grand. She also accompanied the Lincoln Center Choir, played for numerous events and sang with the Plover United Methodist choir.
She is survived by two sons, William E. (Victoria), Stevens Point, and James (Nellie), Minocqua; one brother Lloyd (Maxine) Wallin, Plover; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and two sisters.
