William “Bill” Lundgren, 69, 1726 Pine St., a former member of the Stevens Point Area Board of Education, died at his home Saturday, July 31, 1999.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, at St. Stephen Catholic Church with the Rev. Dan Kozlowski officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation was held at the Shuda Funeral Chapel. The Elks Lodge No. 641, of which he was a member, held a ritual. The Knights of Columbus, of which he was a member, combined with the general rosary.
Mr. Lundgren was born March 3, 1930, in Superior, a son of the late Murrel and Olive (Simon) Lundgren. He graduated from Superior East High School and served as a jet engine mechanic in the U.S. Air Force from 1947 until discharged in 1951 as a staff sergeant.
After teaching jet engine repair in Indianapolis, he attended Superior State College in 1952, graduating in 1956. He then came to work as a claims adjuster for Sentry Insurance in Stevens Point. He retired in 1989 as an information systems controller.
He was married to Joan Moriarity on Dec. 27, 1951, at Cathedral Catholic Church in Superior.
Mr. Lundgren was on the Board of Directors of Catholic Residential Services of La Crosse and served as a lay minister at St. Stephen Catholic Church. He and his wife were past president couple of the PTA at Maria High School. He was also a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Board of Directors.
He was a coach and manager for Little League baseball for many years. He served on the Little League Board of Directors for 20 years and was president for six years.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Debbie (Steve) Beuchel, Wausau, Lori (Jerry) Kitowski, Black River Falls, Patti Zachow, Oregon, and Susan Plowman, Wisconsin Rapids; two sons, Bill (Carol) Wolf-Lundgren, Staten Island, N.Y., and Tom (Jacci), Stevens Point; two sisters, Phyllis Banks, Superior, and Karen (Roy) Thomas, Monroe; two brothers, Ken (Bev), Superior, and Larry (Dorothy), Barron; and 11 grandchildren.
